Governor of the Samara region Azarov announced his resignation
Governor of the Samara region Dmitry Azarov announced his resignation. He stated this in his address published in Telegram.
“I have decided to end my work as governor. I thank every resident, all my fellow countrymen who worked and are working, defending and defending our Samara land and our beautiful Motherland, bringing victory closer,” Azarov told reporters. According to him, the region has achieved the main goals that were set six years ago.
In November 2023, law enforcement officers detained Azarov’s subordinates – the chairman of the regional government, Viktor Kudryashov, and the acting head of the Samara Ministry of Construction, Mikhail Aseev. A criminal case was opened against Kudryashov for increasing the cost of constructing a metro station in Samara to 18.4 billion rubles. Aseev was suspected of unjustifiably transferring 194 million rubles to the Volgatransstroyproekt company, which was building a metro station.
At the same time, Azarov left the region for Moscow. The Kommersant newspaper claimed that the head of the region tried to meet with the first heads of the presidential administration. Kommersant admitted that the governor was trying to resolve the political crisis in Moscow that had ripened in the Samara region. Azarov then went to the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). He then arrived in Samara, but left again on November 27, the newspaper learned.
The day before, on May 30, the head of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (KhMAO-Yugra), Natalya Komarova, also announced her resignation.
