During Sony’s recent State of Play presentation, internal studio Team Asobi revealed its next project: a new chapter in the Astro Bot series, scheduled for 2024 on PlayStation 5. Simply titled “Astro Bot”, the game was shown in a trailer that revealed the cute little robot in action, engaged in platforming and fighting sessions, all accompanied by a captivating soundtrack. The trailer not only highlighted the gameplay, but also winked at the numerous classic games from the PlayStation world that usually make their appearance in Team Asobi’s titles. The references to titles such as PaRappa the Rapper and Journey are evident, suggesting an adventure that not only celebrates the character of Astro Bot, but also the entire PlayStation world.
Soon after the reveal, more information about Astro Bot emerged. The game will not be free and it will be possible to pre-order it now. The title will offer six different galaxies, with over 80 levels to explore. Each planet will feature unique environments, including forests, beaches, volcanoes and giant hourglasses. Following the franchise’s tradition of making the most of PlayStation technology, Astro Bot will introduce 15 new abilities designed to take advantage of the capabilities of the DualSense controller. The new chapter represents the fifth Team Asobi project starring the cute little robot. The studio’s latest effort, Astro’s Playroom, launched alongside the PlayStation 5 and was pre-installed on every console, quickly becoming a popular title for both new users and veterans. Rumors about a new game have been around for several years. Back in 2021, Team Asobi was revealed to have posted a job advert hinting at the development of their “most ambitious game yet”.
