In the early hours of Thursday’s Italian Grand Prix, it transpired that Ducati has chosen Jorge Martin as Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate in the factory team for next year. As the hours passed, Marquez’s speech hardened. At first, the multiple world champion was asked what he thought of this situation and he seemed disoriented: “This is not the information I have”, he replied to one of the many interviews he gave in the morning, to which many others followed in the afternoon.
Certainly, after giving credit to Martin’s arrival in the red garage, Marquez has reformulated his strategy, suggesting that the decision made by the Bolognese manufacturer will not affect his future if it does not coincide with his will. By logic and for the contractual commitments that the Italian brand has, the most convenient operation would be for the #93 to go to Pramac, which has the renewal of the agreement with Ducati in hand to continue to have two Desmosedicis with the latest update for the next two years.
This path, however, does not convince the pilot from Cervera at all, who is not so keen on the idea of leaving one satellite structure to land in another. “Pramac is not an option for me,” he said at midday. In the afternoon, after the usual press conference, the eight-time world champion met the Spanish media and was a little more explicit about the different alternatives that he may have.

“I won’t move from one satellite team to another. Last year I left Honda to go to Gresini and I’m happy here. It was a very delicate situation in my career, but now I’m competitive and I’m having fun,” explained Marquez, who hasn’t closed the door on the idea of leaving the Ducati “family”. “I don’t want to adapt to a motorbike again, but I don’t rule it out. I am lucky that in these three scenarios that I have I would feel good, even if I have my priorities,” added the Catalan, who has an offer from the Pierer Mobility group on the table.
Having missed the opportunity to wear red, the next point on the priority list is to stay in Gresini, but with the current year’s Desmosedici, the same one that Martin and Bagnaia will have. To materialize this scenario, Pramac would not have to exercise the renewal option with Ducati that it has on the table to presumably sign with Yamaha or give up one of the two official prototypes by “selling” one to Gresini. “I have already told those who need to know how comfortable I would feel,” concluded Marquez.
