By now the direction chosen by Sony is very clear: PC players must connect their Steam accounts to PlayStation Network if they want to play video games, even if they are online-only titles. As we reported to you, the God of War Ragnarok Steam page indicates that you need to connect yours PSN accounts to play and now we see that the same will be for the PC version of Until Dawn.
The company already attempted to do the same with Heldlivers 2, but it was months late in its release and this caused a very negative reaction from the public and Sony eventually had to take a step back.
The PSN account linking issue
Putting aside the “weaker” although still valid complaints to some extent, such as the fact that it is annoying to have to create a new one just to play on Steam especially when this does not bring any benefit to the user, the obligation to connecting your PSN account involves a real big problem.
Not in all nations of the world does the PSN support, so those who live in such areas cannot easily create an account and connect it to Steam (you can create an account by choosing a supported country, but technically it is against Sony’s rules), therefore they cannot purchase Sony video games. In fact, Helldivers 2 has been removed from sale in over 180 countries.
At the moment we have no information on Concord and the need to connect the PSN account, but we believe that the situation will not be different, especially considering that in this case it is very useful for Sony since it is a game online with cross-play.
