Sundar Pichai: You can fall in love with an artificial intelligence

Sundar Pichai he started with a joke, saying, “First, let me say that I love my wife. Because she could listen to me right now”. However, she then addressed the issue in a serious way, explaining how AI is becoming increasingly capable of interacting with humans in a natural and profound way.

AI, today, can be used to converse and can represent an excellent tool for those with communication difficulties. Pichai pointed out that AI can also be used to preserve memories of loved ones, suggesting that in the future people could develop meaningful relationships with these advanced digital assistants, called AI Agents.

The idea that people could fall in love with an AI is no longer just science fiction. The New York Times recently talked about the “Her era,” referring to Spike Jonze’s 2013 film, where the protagonist develops an intimate relationship with an artificial intelligence. Pichai believes there actually is the possibility of deep relationships between humans and AIespecially as technology becomes more sophisticated.

Sundar Pichai shared the moment he fell in love with AI professionally, recalling a demo from the Google Brain team, now known as Google DeepMind. “The moment they showed me how a neural network could recognize a cat was an epiphany: I knew this technology would work,” she said.

Raised in India, Sundar Pichai he has always seen the internet as a democratic tool that has changed the world. He believes that AI has the same potential as the internet to improve access to information and reduce inequalities, providing more people with educational and health opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
