On the stage of the March for Jesus, which was attended by several right-wing politicians in São Paulo, the organizer of the event, Estevam Hernandes, prayed for the Minister of the General Advocacy of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, and, hugging him, asked “ better days” for Brazil. Unlike what happened last year, there were no boos for Messias, who is part of the Baptist Church and was once again the representative of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the event.
“Let us prophesy that better days will come for our nation in the name of Jesus, amen? May we see this land healed”, said apostle Estevam Hernandes, from the Renascer em Cristo Church.
Afterwards, still alongside Messias, he argued that “Brazil does not need war”. “It is impossible for the holy spirit in me to encourage war,” he said.
Before, Hernandes also stated that he had just given “an important mission” to Jorge Messias, without saying what it was. “It’s difficult, but I know that he is a servant of God and can do great things,” said Hernandes, who introduced the minister for his position at AGU, without references to the president or the federal government.
Absent at the event, Lula sent a letter to Estevam Hernandes saying that the church “has a vital role in a more just country”.
In the letter, the president also says that, as a Christian, he feels “happy to see the extraordinary dimension” that the event took and the significant role it plays in the lives of many Brazilians, “promoting values of peace, faith, love for others and solidarity”. He also writes that it is always “an honor and a joy” to receive the invitation to participate in the celebration. “I want to express my respect and recognition for holding yet another edition of this event, which brings together thousands of faithful in a moment of faith, unity and prayer”, he states.
