The largest company that distributes tickets in the world is Ticketmaster, which has branches in many countries so that users can get tickets for their favorite artist, as well as other presentations that are not necessarily linked to the musical world. And obviously, as it is a million-dollar international company, hacks cannot be exempt, and recently a group of hackers have had access to its data banks, including customer information.
The group known as ShinyHunters shared details of the hack on the dark web, claiming to have data on 560 million people. This includes names, phone numbers, addresses and banking details such as the last four digits of credit cards and the expiration date. The details are in BreachForums, where a proof of the content and price for the database was published. The hackers are said to have contacted Ticketmaster before putting the data up for sale, but the company did not respond.
Although they have not made any statement about the cyber attack, the Australian Government confirmed the intrusion. A representative of Department of the Interior said they are aware of the incident and that the National Cyber Security Office is working with the company. They have a negative history, and have neither confirmed nor denied the incident. The most recent case was a bot attack during Taylor Swift’s concert sale, where hackers wanted free tickets. This prevented thousands of people from buying their tickets and forced the company to give explanations to the Senate of the United States.
This is not the first time this has happened, given that in previous years important information was stolen that affected many people and exposed their financial security due to weak systems that were promised to improve from that very moment. However, years have passed and things have not changed much, so now many users will be waiting for answers from the company, or this problem could escalate to a class action lawsuit.
Author’s note: I don’t know if it was only the case in one part of the world, or if the hacking is general. But if hackers are smart enough to enter these systems, all they need to do is break in with more serious things like military files or similar.
