Reuters: US boycotts UN ceremony in memory of fallen Iranian president
The United States is boycotting a United Nations (UN) ceremony dedicated to the fallen Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. The agency reported this Reuters citing a US official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
He noted that the United States will not be present at the event “in any capacity.” The official also called on the UN to think about the people of Iran, and not “honor the memory of their oppressor.”
On May 19, a helicopter carrying the Iranian President crashed. In addition to Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati and Friday Imam of the city of Tabriz Mohammad Ali Ale Hashem were on board. As a result of the accident, none of the passengers on the aircraft survived.
