The UAE, as Chairman of the Arab Group for the month of May in the Security Council, stressed the necessity of ending the war on Gaza and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid urgently and without obstacles, noting that this dangerous juncture in the history of the conflict necessitates the Security Council and the international community to make all possible efforts to save… The two-state solution.
The UAE stressed that what is happening in Gaza embodies the true meaning of the scourge of war and the atrocities it causes, demanding an end to the occupation, an end to the violence, the establishment of security and stability in the region, and the independence of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions, international law and the United Nations Charter. .
Yesterday, the UAE said in a statement delivered by Ambassador Mohammed Abu Shehab, Permanent Representative of the UAE Mission to the United Nations, before the Security Council regarding the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue: “The attacks we have witnessed on the camps for the displaced in Rafah since the beginning of this week It is beyond description, and requires clear condemnation from the entire international community.”
Abu Shehab added: “The heinous massacre committed by the Israeli occupation forces last Sunday against hundreds of civilians while they were sleeping in their tents, in addition to the Al-Mawasi massacre yesterday, are nothing but new episodes in a series of systematic war crimes against the Palestinian people.”
He continued: There are no words to express the horror of the death of children burned by fire, or phrases to describe the terror of a mother holding the burning remains of her infant, or language to express the cries of pain of a crippled old man breathing his last amidst the burning tents. These bloody raids came less than two days after a court issued a ruling. International Justice: New temporary measures demanding that Israel immediately stop its military operations in Rafah, after more than 900,000 Palestinians were displaced during the past two weeks, meaning more than 60 percent of the displaced in Rafah, due to Israel’s escalation of its aggression against the governorate, forcing many of them to be displaced again, in search of… About safety from this war.
He added: However, after nearly eight months of bombing, killing, abuse and displacement, there is no longer a safe or livable place in Gaza. Everything that was called a safe area has been targeted, and everything that is protected under international humanitarian law has been violated.
Abu Shehab said: “The tragedy of repeated displacement is only one aspect of the suffering endured by these displaced people who suffer from an almost complete absence of water, food and sanitary supplies, especially with Israel closing the Rafah crossing and not allowing humanitarian aid to enter, at a time when the Gaza Strip is suffering.” From famine.
He added: “Israel has persistently and obstinately crossed all red lines and is clearly and unequivocally defying international law and the decisions of this Council, just as it has ignored the provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice three times.”
Abu Shihab pointed out that the eyes of the world today are not only directed to Rafah, but also to this Council responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Such a level of crime requires a firm and clear response from the Security Council. When the United Nations was founded on the ruins of two devastating world wars, it pledged Member States must save future generations from the scourge of war, and your esteemed Council has the primary responsibility for achieving this. So where are the people of Gaza in this era?! What is happening in the Gaza Strip undoubtedly embodies the true meaning of the scourge of war and the atrocities it causes to innocent people.
He added: The Arab group calls on this Council to engage positively and constructively in the negotiations related to the draft resolution presented by the State of Algeria the day before yesterday, which aims to stop the Israeli military attack on Rafah and demands an immediate ceasefire.
Abu Shehab stressed the necessity of adopting this resolution after the Security Council was very late in taking such a necessary step, as it has become urgent to end this war, which the United Nations described as a war against children, during which we witnessed repeated massacres that affected hospitals, aid distribution points, children and others. Of innocent people, as we have witnessed Israel’s killing of humanitarian, medical, and media workers, in addition to the elderly, women, and children.
Abu Shehab continued: “The bombing also affected health centers, schools, camps, bakeries, mosques, churches, universities, and United Nations facilities,” pointing out that targeting civilians constitutes a war crime whose perpetrators must be held accountable before the law.
He added: “The double standards have become as clear as the sun, and its repercussions will not only destabilize our region, but also the entire world. Accordingly, the Arab Group stresses the necessity of applying international law, including international humanitarian law, in a unified and equal manner, without exception or Discrimination, and the implementation of Security Council resolutions should not be selective or based on double standards.”
He said: “Israel, like any other country, is required to respect its obligations in accordance with these international frameworks, and to stop its illegal practices, including the West Bank as well, where tensions are escalating to dangerous levels with the accelerating pace of settlement, land confiscation, and almost daily raids on Palestinian cities and camps, in addition to About the ongoing incursions by Israeli extremists into the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police, and the obstruction of worshipers’ entry into it, which represents a flagrant violation of international law and the existing historical and legal situation in Jerusalem and its sanctities.
Abu Shehab pointed out that achieving just and lasting peace requires strong support for the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, in addition to recognition of the Palestinian state, as many countries have recently done, whose support we highly value for the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people.
