The International Cycling Union (UCI) ended the mystery this Wednesday in the case of the Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez and imposed a 4-year sanction on him, after the Anti-Doping Court declared him guilty of doping for the use of menotropina substance prohibited in the regulations.

The UCI had imposed a provisional suspension on the Colombian after being associated in the Ilex operation (a doping plot) carried out by the Spanish Civil Guard against the Spanish doctor of Astana, Marcos Maynar. The only option left for the Colombian is to take his case before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (TAS) to clear his name and appeal the harsh 4-year sanction, or reduce it. Although in the worst case the said court can reaffirm or increase it.

It should be noted that López has just won a case in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ruled in his favor in a lawsuit against Astana, which must pay him significant compensation considering that “he did not withdraw from the 2022 Giro d’Italia due to a positive in doping control, warning that there was no proof” and after being fired without just cause from the Kazakh team.
