The range of Jaecoo, a Chery group brand, is expanding. The Jaecoo 7 and 8 are also joined by the 6, a new compact electric SUV designed to move better in city traffic thanks to its compact dimensions while still conveying great robustness and with a look similar to that of an off-road vehicle, also thanks to its minimal height 17 centimeters from the ground. The Jaecoo 6 is already on sale in Australia and New Zealand, as well as in several Asian countries.
Size and design
Let’s start with the dimensions: the new Jaecoo 6 is 4.40 meters long, 1.91 wide and 1.71 high, with a wheelbase of 2.71 metres. The design is inspired by the “boxy” shapes, typical of traditional off-road vehicles, with clean, squared lines that make it seem larger and more imposing. The front has a vertical development, with LED headlights in the shape of an inverted L, joined together by a grille made up of many thin vertical strips. The geometries of the front end are also reflected on the sides, where the large glass surfaces with clear lines ensure perfect lighting of the passenger compartment, while the strong fenders further emphasize the off-road vocation of the model. The rib present below the belt line accompanies the gaze towards the rear area. Here the scene is dominated by the large side-hinged tailgate on which, instead of the traditional spare wheel, a small box can be mounted to store small objects or charging cables.
Interior of Jaecoo 6
The clear and square shapes of the exterior are also reflected inside the Jaecoo 6, with the dashboard that develops horizontally. The Chinese brand has given great importance to materials and coverings to convey a sense of high quality, also focusing on a rich technological equipment. Above all, the large touch screen of the infotainment system equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor stands out, with a diagonal of 15.6 inches which stands out in the center of the dashboard, thus being perfectly reachable by both the driver and the passenger. From here it is possible to access not only the various functions of the multimedia system, but also various car setting parameters. A second screen with a diagonal of 10.25 inches positioned behind the steering wheel serves as the instrument cluster. Equipped with clear and widely customizable graphics, it allows you to keep the main driving information under control. But technology is also that which is expressed through small solutions capable of making the experience on board the Jaecoo 6 even more futuristic, such as the door handles replaced by small buttons that activate the opening, activated electrically.
Jaecoo 6 engines
Under the skin, the new Jaecoo 6 is equipped with an electric powertrain made up of two permanent magnet motors, one on each axle. A 95 HP and 165 Nm of torque engine is mounted on the front, while on the rear there is a more powerful unit with 184 HP and 220 Nm. The system power thus generated reaches 279 HP and 375 Nm, thus allowing a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.5 seconds. All this is combined with a 69.8 kWh lithium ion battery which guarantees a range of 470 km according to NEDC approval. The battery is compatible for fast charging up to 85 kW in direct current, thus allowing you to go from 30% to 80% in just half an hour. Level 2 safety and driving assistance equipment includes Adaptive Cruise Control, automatic emergency braking, active lane keeping system, road sign detection system and many others.
