Motorsport.com had anticipated it yesterday, but now comes the official confirmation: the Indian Grand Prix is canceled from this year’s calendar. All doubts have therefore been resolved about the event which should have taken place at the Buddh International Circuit in the month of September, on the weekend from 20th to 22nd, and which will be canceled in 2023.
The confirmation of the cancellation comes the day after the indiscretion of Motorsport.com, which had access to a statement from Pushkar Nath Srivastava, CEO of Fairstreet, the company organizing the event. If at first the presence of Dorna was not included in the communication, now the championship promoter also joins in the confirmation, thus making official the elimination of the event from the calendar. The cause is attributable to excessively extreme weather conditions, according to the note released by the championship. However, Motorsport.com has learned that the real reason why the race was canceled was the violation of the contract signed with Dorna in economic terms.

It now remains to be seen whether the Buddh slot will soon come from Kazakhstan: the first race in the history of MotoGP in Sokol, in fact, should have been held in June, but due to the floods that hit the country, the event was postponed on a date to be determined. This could be relocated in place of the Indian Grand Prix, and the latter should instead postpone the event to next season, the note mentions March 2025.
The Indian Grand Prix is the second to skip on this year’s calendar. In fact, the race in Argentina was canceled already at the beginning of 2024. The Termas de Rio Hondo event, which should have been held last April, was canceled due to government issues. Now, with India’s cancellation, the calendar is reduced to 20 races, the same number as last year.
The first, and so far only, edition of the Indian Grand Prix was held in extremely hot conditions, so much so that some protagonists fell ill at the end of the race. On Sunday Marco Bezzecchi prevailed, triumphing ahead of Jorge Martin and Fabio Quartararo.
