The M/V Laax, a Greek-owned, Marshall Island-flagged bulk carrier, was hit by three missiles, but continued its voyage, Centcom’s statement said.
The statement added: “No casualties were reported by American, coalition, or commercial ships.”
Centcom said that between 10:04 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (Sanaa time), US Central Command (USCENTCOM) forces succeeded in destroying five unmanned aerial systems (UAS) over the Red Sea, which were launched from an area controlled by the Houthis.
It indicated that these air systems represent an imminent threat to commercial ships in the region.
The statement concluded by saying: “These actions are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition, and commercial vessels.”
