The German government expressed its continued opposition to the idea of creating a defensive shield against Russian air strikes on western Ukraine from within the territory of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
German government spokesman Steffen Heibstreit said in Berlin yesterday: “This, from our point of view, would be direct participation in this conflict.” This is something we are not seeking.”
Heibstreit also referred to the statements of German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in this regard.
It is noteworthy that calls in this regard to establish a defensive shield have recently arisen in Germany and at the international level as well.
Hebstrait declined to comment specifically on the question of whether Ukraine pledged not to use weapons systems coming from Germany in attacks on targets in Russia, and in what form this pledge took place.
