Latam reported that this Monday, the 27th, it made the first commercial flight from Canoas Air Base, in Rio Grande do Sul. Aboard an Airbus A320, the company transported 173 passengers from Congonhas airport, in São Paulo. In total, the airline will have 24 commercial landings and takeoffs per week in Canoas.
Additionally, the company scheduled 282 extra flights to serve Rio Grande do Sul throughout the month of June. “The measure was taken to keep Porto Alegre (RS) and its metropolitan region connected with the rest of Brazil and met its needs for transporting people and cargo, while operations at the airport in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul are suspended”, states the company in note.
In addition to the 102 new flights between São Paulo (Congonhas and Guarulhos airports) and Canoas Air Base, Latam will also operate 120 extra flights between São Paulo/Guarulhos and Florianópolis and 60 extra flights between São Paulo/Guarulhos and Caxias do Sul .
Latam reinforces that the commercial operation at the Canoas Air Base is temporary and exceptional, due to the impacts of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. Boarding and disembarking of flights at the Canoas Air Base will be carried out remotely by bus and all The service process will take place from 6am to 6pm and in an adapted manner on the ground floor of ParkShopping Canoas.

According to the company, all passengers with flights scheduled to/from Porto Alegre (POA) until July 31st can change their trip free of charge. In this section, the customer can change their original ticket from/to Porto Alegre (POA) free of charge for a new trip to/from Canoas, Caxias do Sul (CXJ), Passo Fundo (PFB), Florianópolis (FLN), Jaguaruna ( JJG), Navigators (NVT) or Canoes (QNS). Solidarity Plane
Latam’s Solidarity Plane program has already transported 141 tons of donations (basic baskets, water, disposable diapers, blankets, among other items) and 102 volunteers (doctors, nurses, veterinarians and firefighters) to the southern region of Brazil for free since May 4 2024.
Latam’s humanitarian transports were carried out on the company’s commercial flights to airports in the region and on five unique special flights to the Canoas Air Base (RS), including donations from countries such as Portugal and the USA.
For 11 years, Latam’s Solidarity Plane program has benefited more than 140 million people in Brazil with the free transport of more than 4,600 animals and 282 million vaccines against Covid-19 to all Brazilian states.
Additionally, Latam has also been involved in the free transportation of donations collected by its partners in Brazil: Movimento União BR, CVC, Government of the State of Santa Catarina and Fraport.
