Little hope at Red Bull
Max Verstappen he was chasing the front row, but found himself in third at the end of Qualifying in Monaco due to contact with the wall when Sainte-Devote exited in the second and decisive run of Q3. The Red Bull driver will have to try to move up from sixth position, but it won’t be easy at all unless the Virtual Safety Car or Safety Car is particularly fortunately neutralised.
“We could have aspired to the front row – has explained Helmut Marko – we knew that Charles Leclerc was the big favourite, but Verstappen could have finished second. Unfortunately it hit the wall, but at least the car didn’t suffer any damage. Of course, finishing in sixth place is a disappointment. The second sector was our weak point, Max was strong in the first and tried to take an even further lead, but in Monaco it’s easy for something to go wrong. Starting from so far back, the hopes of a turnaround are slim, it would already be positive to get closer to the podium.”
Sergio Perez at Imola he was eliminated in Q2, at Monaco even in Q1: “You can’t expect him to keep up with Max, but he has to be closer to him. We will analyze why he did so badly here in Monaco”concluded Marko.
