Netflix has revealed some new audience figures for its series, including this one one piecewhich apparently turned out to be a huge success. In reality, this was already known, but now there is further confirmation, which will sweep away even the last doubts about its commercial viability. Of course, it remains to be seen how it will be able to keep up with the manga and anime series, given the quantity of episodes and narrative arcs, but for the moment this seems to be a relative problem.
The occasion was the new report on the results of the service, called as always “What We Watched” and related to second half of 2023.
According to what was written, from July to December 2023 the public watched 90 billion hours of Netflix content, in line with the first half of the year. There are so many of them.
Excellent numbers
The most watched series was One Piece with over half a billion hours of viewing, which translates into just under 72 million views totals. Note that Netflix has changed the way it reports its data in the report, aligning with that of the weekly top 10. Basically the term “views” is used to indicate the hours watched.
Netflix also pointed out that the live-action adaptation also drove viewership for the One Piece film and anime series. In total, One Piece content has generated approximately 50 million views, in addition to those of the live series.
It should be noted that the report divides the series by seasons. So some longer-running series, with many seasons, may have surpassed One Piece in total views. However, Netflix is more interested in highlighting the data of the individual seasons, thus obtaining an advantage. If data from entire series were considered, it is likely that third-party content would occupy many of the top positions. For example “Suits“, a great success last summer which only reached twenty-first position due to the division of the seasons. Adding them together gives 146 million views.
