Mexico recorded 48 deaths in two months, following a severe heat wave, amid expectations of record temperatures in the coming days.
The Mexican Ministry of Health said in a statement yesterday, Friday: “48 deaths were recorded nationally related to the heat wave that began in mid-March, while 956 people suffered from various health problems.”
The heat wave also claimed the lives of dozens of howler monkeys, known for their loud voices, and which are classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List. She was found dead in the state of Tabasco on the Gulf Coast.
Last Thursday, the maximum temperature in the city of Monclova, Coahuila state, was 46 degrees.
