Former Train bassist Charlie Colin only experienced his band’s biggest hit as an outsider. Now the former companions say an emotional farewell.
Brussels – In the summer of 2009, his band played their way into the ears and hearts of the whole world with “Hey, Soul Sister”. The musicians from San Francisco owe their success to Charlie Colin, one of the co-founders of the US alternative band “Train”.
Now the bassist has died suddenly. After a tragic accident in the shower, he apparently went unnoticed for days. Friends found his lifeless body. He was 58 years old. At only 36 years old An Austropop musician recently died suddenly.

In an emotional post on Instagram The band said goodbye to their former member. “When I first met Charlie Colin (front left) I immediately fell in love with him. He was THE sweetest guy and such a handsome guy,” the post reads.
Forming a band was the bassist’s idea. “His unique bass playing and beautiful guitar work helped people notice us in San Francisco and beyond,” his former companions pay tribute to Colin.

The exact background and timing of the accident are still unclear. Colin’s mother told the celebrity portal TMZ but that it happened while the 58-year-old was looking after the house of a friend who was away in Belgium. According to the report, the musician slipped in the friend’s shower and died. It was only when the friend returned home from his trip that Colin was discovered.
Colin also lived in Belgium and taught music in Brussels. He and his colleagues founded the band in 1994, and their eponymous album “Train” made them a breakthrough in the USA in 1998. Four years later, the band received two Grammys for their unique musical styles of country, rock and pop.
But Colin did not experience the greatest international success with the single “Hey, Soul Sister” as part of the band. In 2003, a year after winning the Grammys, the bassist left “Train”. Insiders suspect drug abuse was behind the departure. The band “will always have a warm place for him in their hearts,” the obituary says. “You are a legend, Charlie. Charm the angels out of their minds.” The rock world also mourned the death of Charlie at the end of April. the painful loss of a legend.
Half of all fatal accidents occur in the home
Accidents in one’s own four walls are not uncommon. Federal Statistical Office recorded 15,551 fatal domestic accidents for 2022. That year, they accounted for almost half of all fatal accidents in Germany (32,587), but does not only refer to accidents in the bathroom. Of these, people aged 85 or over were most at risk (8124).
The campaign THE SAFE HOUSE (DSH) draws attention to the risks in everyday life, especially in the bathroom. According to their information, 250,000 people in Germany were injured in the bathroom in 2004. The campaign recommends, among other things, non-slip floor mats, rugs and carpets as well as good bathroom lighting to avoid accidents.
