The German and Norwegian governments affirmed their support for the International Criminal Court, following the actions taken by the Prosecutor against leaders in Israel and Palestinian factions.
German government spokesman Steffen Heibstreit said at the federal press conference in Berlin yesterday: “We are supportive in principle of the International Criminal Court, and we will remain that way as well.”
In response to a question whether this also includes adhering to court decisions, Hepstrait said: “Of course, yes, we are abiding by the law.”
Last Monday, International Criminal Prosecutor Karim Khan announced that he had requested the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister to accuse them of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, starting on October 8th.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that they would be forced to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant if they came to Norwegian territory if an arrest warrant was issued for them by the International Criminal Court.
