An 8TB external SSD and a set of 6TB portable HDDs. These are the most innovative products presented by Western Digital during the “A coffee with Western Digital” event, held in Milan on 22 May 2024.
The new SSD is called SanDisk Desk Drive, and with its 8 TB it can boast the title of the highest capacity external desktop solid state drive ever achieved. This is a drive designed for those content creators and professionals looking for a simple answer to back up and quickly access photos, videos and high-resolution files collected in a single device.
But that is not all. Susan Park, vice president of consumer solutions at Western Digital, added: “By next year we expect to double the capacity of the SanDisk Desk Drive from 8TB to 16TB on a single desktop SSD.”
SanDisk Desk Drives are sold in 4TB and 8TB sizes, have reading speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s and exFAT formatting, with a USB Type-C cable included in the package. They have a three-year limited warranty and can be purchased at the Western Digital Store and authorized resellers at price of €447.99 for the 4TB version and €807.99 for the 8TB version.
The new 2.5″ 6TB portable HDD drives they are now available in the WD My Passport, WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive and SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE ArmorATD lines. The record capacity for this format can thus be found in many devices, which differ in functions, styles, price and also colors.
The WD My Passport Ultra 6TB and WD My Passport Ultra for Mac 6TB drives are available for $231.99 and $236.99, respectively. The WD My Passport 6TB and WD My Passport for Mac 6TB drives are available for €213.99 and €217.99, respectively. The WD My Passport 6TB drive that works with the USB-C cable is available for €213.99.
The 6TB WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive is available now for €223.99, while the 6TB SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE ArmorATD will be available for €286.99 starting at the end of May.
