Swen Vincke, the director of Baldur’s Gate 3, has none advise to be given to the development team that will take care of Baldur’s Gate 4, whatever it is. In reality, there is one, and that is that “they have to do their own thing”. So developers must not give in to the inevitable pressure they will receive also because, we add, they will have to deal with what is considered the best exponent of electronic hardcore role-playing games. Not exactly a small task.
Vincke touched on the topic in an interview granted to GamesRadar+, on the occasion of the Digital Dragons conference in Poland, in which he was asked if he had any advice to give to future authors of Baldur’s Gate 4. The curiosity arose from the fact that Larian Studios has declared that with Baldur’s Gate 3 it has finished work on the series and that it is working on a completely new game.
The unsurpassable
“It’ll be up to them. I mean, they have to do their own thing, right?” Vincke said when asked if he had any advice for the team making the eventual Baldur’s Gate 4. “So I don’t want to pressure them into giving advice. I can’t wait to see what they do with it. Honestly, I’m so into it.” so many things that could be done. So they have a realm of possibilities waiting for them.”
Today’s news is the opening of a new Larian studio in Warsaw, Poland, which will support the development of two very ambitious role-playing games. Unfortunately for now there are no details on the matter, because according to Vincke the work is still in the initial stages. Either way, they’re both going to be very big games. No surprise, given that we are talking about who developed the current benchmark of the genre.
That said, Larian will create games at the scale they need. Baldur’s Gate 3 “was really what the game needed, at least the way we were making it,” Vincke said, adding that he hopes the next two games don’t “explode” in size in the same way, “because otherwise we’re going to die everyone”.
