He wanted to relax in Italy, but he couldn’t get any rest on the motorway: a holidaymaker was pelted with stones. He suspects a scam.
Venice – Traffic jams on Italian and Austrian motorways can cause a lot of trouble while on vacation. But in this case, things got even worse: a vacationer from Austria experienced an unusual and frightening incident in Italy. He was driving his caravan on the highway when suddenly stones were thrown at him.
The bullets flew at his car from a breakdown bay, but that wasn’t enough. The car from which the stones were thrown then chased him.
Italy vacationers pelted with stones on the highway and disappeared
This is what the Austrian portal reports Today.at. The 66-year-old man named Peter had set off from Melk in Lower Austria and was on his way from the holiday resort of Jesolo to the tourist metropolis of Venice. He experienced the incident on Wednesday morning (May 15, 2024).
“Then the car that was parked in the breakdown zone followed me and gave me signals,” reports the man. But he didn’t stop, but continued driving unmoved. The stone throwers finally gave up and let him go.
Austrian suspects fraud: “They want you to stop”
The Austrian thought he knew what the stone throwers were after: “There were probably three people who stood in front of the car and threw things at me. They want you to stop and then they claim that you hit their car and demand money.” An Austrian woman became the last person in Spain robbed on the highway.
But when he later stopped at a rest stop, he inspected his car. There was damage to the right indicator; a stone several centimeters in diameter hit it. The holidaymaker continued on to Venice anyway – he didn’t let the stone throwers stop him.
