After Sony’s step back with Helldivers 2, regarding the mandatory use of PSN accounts, which had earned the game hundreds of thousands of negative reviews on Steam, the controversy seemed to have subsided. In reality it is not entirely, because it has moved to Ghost of Tsushima, a PlayStation title just launched on the Valve platform.
It must be said that the general reception is very positive, with 85% of the almost 5,000 reviews published at the time of writing this news being favorable to the Sucker Punch game, apparently a great conversion.
Having said this, what is particularly interesting are the negative reviewswhich mostly beat on the same point: the PSN account.
Ghost of Tsushima requires you to register for an account on the PlayStation Network to play. Sony made this known after the Helldivers 2 case, withdrawing the game from almost 200 countries, where it is impossible to have one. Given the wait to be able to play it, many did not take it well at all and the frustration at the exclusion from the possibility of purchasing added to that at the obligation of the extra account, then manifesting itself in the reviews, as happens basically on Steam for years (in different games, for different reasons, of course).
Should Sony take a further step back?
For example, the user “I’m Your Father” wrote: “The positive review is not available in your region,” clearly alluding to the above, while the user ジン wrote: “I purchased this game on Steam for play it on Steam. I don’t want to connect or create a PSN account. Absurd behavior on Sony’s part.” Then he published the list of all the territories where you cannot register a PSN account.
Other comments have the same tenor, like the one from KronG who talks about a great game from a terrible publisher.
However, it is fair to point out that some negative reviews also talk about other problems, such as bugs and various crashes. However, it is doubtful that hundreds have decided to hijack the controversy for PSN accounts on Ghost of Tsushima. Who knows if it will also happen with future PlayStation titles.
