Facebook and Instagram, suspected addiction in children: the EU investigates Meta
There European Commission has launched an in-depth investigation into Halfthe company of Mark Zuckerberg that owns Facebook and Instagramfor possible violations of the European Union rules contained in the Digital Services Act aimed at protecting minors from harmful content online.
According to initial information, the Commission wants to shed light on the ways in which Meta collects and uses data personal data of younger usersparticularly children and adolescents, and on the strategies adopted to encourage them to spend more and more time on social networks.
We all know that Instagram and other platforms can create a real “social media addiction” in the little ones, who often end up neglecting real relationships due to virtual comments and notifications.
But Meta defends himself: “We want teenagers to have safe and age-appropriate online experiences. This is why we have developed further in the last decade 50 tools and policies designed precisely to protect them. This is a challenge that the whole sector is facing, and we are ready to share more details on our work with the European Commission.”
