The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) announced the organization of the “Good News” event, which aims to celebrate the palm tree and introduce its importance, status and influence on all aspects of Emirati culture, through a number of heritage activities inspired by the palm tree as a national symbol and part of the heritage. Over the course of May 25 and 26, Al Shindagha Museum, the largest heritage museum in the Emirates, will witness the organization of a series of interactive workshops that will be held under the supervision of an elite group of heritage experts and specialists. The children’s wing will host the workshops “Safafah – Camel Necklace” and “Safafah – Cup holders” and “wicker origami”, which gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the basics of the wicker craft and its techniques, and ways to deal with palm fronds to use them in creating a range of accessories, bags and decorations.

The “Turath Center for Traditional Handicrafts” hosts a group of “traditional workshops” aiming to introduce them to the history of handicrafts, their historical dimensions, the parts of the palm tree and the raw materials used in products inspired by wicker.

Throughout this May, patrons of Al Shindagha Museum will be able to enjoy the “Family Walks” organized by the authority over the weekend, with the aim of enabling visitors to learn about the holdings of the “Dubai Creek House – The Genesis of a City”, “The Perfume House”, and “Contemporary Dubai”. » and the “Marine Life Pavilion”, in addition to enjoying the “Rutab Harvest” show presented by Emirati artist Marai Al-Halyan, in which he expresses the importance of the rutab harvest season and its role in enhancing social cohesion.
In this context, Abdullah Al Obaidli, Acting Director of Al Shindagha Museum at Dubai Culture, pointed out the authority’s keenness to celebrate elements of Emirati heritage, including the palm tree, and its efforts to raise the level of awareness of community members about its place in local memory and the importance of preserving it.
