A delegation from the Italian Association of Clinical Engineers (AIIC), on the occasion of the first day of the 24th AIIC National Conference – scheduled at the La Nuvola Convention Center in Rome until 18 May – participated this morning in the audience of Pope Francis, in the square Saint Peter. At the end, the delegation, led by president Umberto Nocco, spent a few minutes with the Pope.
“On this occasion – declares Nocco – we assured the Pope of our ethical commitment towards patients and for the best functioning of the health system. As healthcare technology professionals we decided to engage in a gesture of social solidarity by adhering to the invitation that Pope Through St. Peter’s Pence, Francis addressed ‘Help the Pope to help’. This membership of ours is concrete and laborious – continues the AIIC president – We have therefore already contributed, with a bank transfer made in recent days, to the activities that the Pence is being implemented in favor of the poorest. We do not intend to stop here: AIIC has decided that, starting from this year, Italian clinical engineers will work to bring healthcare technologies to the poorest and most disadvantaged places where the Holy See indicates, to carry out concrete, effective, targeted and useful charity”.
In this regard, “as a scientific association – concludes Nocco – we felt obliged to be able to support the great mission of Pope Francis in the small way of our professional responsibility, involving the vast technological world in which we are daily inserted”.
