The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, confirmed this Wednesday (15) that he has decided to postpone all his international trips – which included a visit to Spain on Friday (17) and another in Portugal – to focus on the situation on the new front opened by Russia in the northeast region of Kharkiv.
“Volodymyr Zelensky gave instructions to postpone all his international events in which he planned to participate in the coming days,” his office said in a statement, in which he also explained that the head of state asked that new dates be found for these visits.
The postponement of the Ukrainian presidency’s international agenda comes amid an advance by Russian troops in the Kharkiv region, announced by the Chief of Staff, General Anatoliy Barhylevych. “The commanders of the Border Guard, the National Guard and the head of the Army himself, Oleksandr Sirski, are working on the ground,” said the president’s office.
Furthermore, the secret services study all the “possible steps” that the enemy is preparing.
According to the presidency, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces regularly informs Zelensky about the evolving situation, where “additional forces are being deployed” from the reserves.
Ukraine acknowledged on Wednesday that it was forced to withdraw from some of the positions it defended on the two axes of the new front opened by Russia in the border zone in the northeast region of Kharkiv to avoid casualties and occupy new positions to continue defending its territory.
