Williams signs the coup for its present and future by announcing this morning the renewal of Alexander Albon’s contract.
The Anglo-Thai driver has signed a multi-year agreement that will tie him to the Grove team for several years, still remaining the point of reference on the track for a team that is struggling to get back on top.
“I am really very happy to remain with Williams Racing and continue to work with enormously talented people like those who work at Grove,” said the former Toro Rosso and Red Bull driver.
“For now our start to the season has been very difficult, but since I became a Williams driver we have made significant progress together and I have seen many changes take place behind the scenes which have allowed us to begin our recovery.”
“This is a long-term project and I truly believe in it. I want to play a key role in this recovery and that is why I signed a multi-year contract with the team. Our journey will still need time, but I am confident, because we are building the right team to take steps forward and finally achieve significant results in the years to come.”

James Vowles, Williams team principal, said he was more than satisfied to have reached an agreement with a driver of Albon’s caliber and to be able to keep him for several more years.
“We are delighted to have secured a long-term future with Alex. He is an exceptionally talented driver, because he is able to give input from a technical point of view to the team and this is certainly a big factor in the recovery of Williams, a road that must bring us back to competitiveness”.
“Ever since Alex arrived at Williams, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure. Having him sign a multi-year extension is a truly great piece of the puzzle for our current and future plans.”
This renewal is important not only for the present and future of Williams, but also for the drivers’ market, which continues to experience a noisy stalemate regarding the most important seats. Now, what is certain is that Albon will no longer be available should any team be left with the most classic of matches in hand.
