Spider-Man’s multiverse expands. A year after its initial revelation, today it has been confirmed that the live action series of Spider-Man: Noir has found its protagonist, and it is about Nicolas Cage, the same actor who gave life to this character in the film Into the Spider-Verse.
According to Variety, during a presentation for advertisers by Amazon, the company has confirmed that Cage has been chosen to take the role of Spider-Man Noir in what will be the first series in which the actor will work. This production will premiere first on MGM+ in the United States, followed by an international launch on Prime Video. This is the project description:
“Not to go [contará la historia] of an elderly, down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to deal with his past life as the city’s only superhero.
For his part, this is what he commented Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studiosabout:
“Expanding the Marvel universe with ‘Noir’ is a unique and special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers. “The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished production team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal and the incredible team at Sony are dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”
This is the second production that Amazon is currently working onsince it is also under development Silk: Spider-Man Society. These are just a couple of the many projects where Amazon and Sony are working together. For its part, Spider-Man: Noir will feature the participation of Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal will also executive produce. Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. This is what Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, commented on the matter:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring so much pathos, pain and heart to this unique character. “Together with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reinvention of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
Unfortunately, At the moment it is unknown when the series will be available. Spider-Man: Noir, but considering that we barely know who the protagonist will be, everything seems to indicate that it will be a couple of years before we see the final result on Prime Video. On related topics, one of the villains of the DLC of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Likewise, there is a tribute to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Author’s Note:
Although I am very interested to see how Nicolas Cage will perform as Spider-Man Noir in a live-action version of the character, this is still a Sony production. Let’s remember that the company has not had the best luck with this property in recent years, so we have to be somewhat cautious on this occasion.
