As we already know, the Aleph One community is working to bring the original Marathon trilogy back to Steam and now Bungie announced that the first chapter is finally available. Classic Marathon And available on Steam in a completely free format.
The communication took place via Twitter, where Bungie wrote: “Today we are thrilled to announce that the Aleph One community will bring the original Marathon trilogy from 1994-1996, starting with Marathon 1. We thank the Marathon community for their support over the years. We couldn’t do it without you.”
For the moment it is not clear when the next chapters of Marathon will be available on Steam. We also remember that a new chapter of Marathon is in development at Bungie, although it is not exactly clear at what stage it is at and there are rumors of potential problems with the project.
What is Classic Marathon?
There official description of Classic Marathon reads: “Alien forces have boarded the UESC colony ship Marathon in the Tau Ceti system, orbiting humanity’s first interstellar colony. The situation is serious and, as a security officer assigned to the Marathon, your job is to to defend the ship and its crew from the alien threat.”
“This classic 1994 Bungie FPS had a seminal influence on the genre, and is now under the stewardship of the fan community. Experience authentic gameplay using the original data files, with optional widescreen HUD support , 3D filter/perspective, positional audio and interpolation at more than 60 fps, in case the original is too authentic.”
“Classic Marathon is built on the Aleph One engine, available under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3.”
THE minimum system requirements they are obviously absolutely affordable: all you need is Windows 10, a 64-bit processor and 4 GB of RAM. The game weighs only 100 MB.
