After weeks of uncertainty, the Mexican National Team finally announced its call to compete in the 2024 Copa América. Jaime Lozano surprised with his call and dispensed with historic Tri players such as Guillermo Ochoa, Hirving Lozano, Raúl Jiménez and Jesús Gallardo. Instead, ‘Jimmy’ opted for young players in search of achieving the desired, and necessary, generational change.
During the event organized by the Mexican Football Federation, Duilio Davino stated that Jaime Lozano is the coach that the FMF trusts for the 2026 World Cup. Jaime Lozano asked not to speculate regarding the players who were not called up and noted that he spoke with each of them to communicate the decision.
Jaime Lozano stated that the players who were not called up for this competition are not excluded from the World Cup process and that they could return on future occasions.
31 players appear in the call, with the presence of several young under-23 players, and Lozano will have to reduce the list to 23 elements to play in the Copa América.

The 48th edition of the Copa América will start on June 20 and will end on July 14. Mexico’s participation in this competition will begin on June 22 when the Aztec team faces Jamaica.
On matchday 2 of the tournament organized by Conmebol, Mexico will face Venezuela. To finish their participation in the group stage, El Tri will face Ecuador on June 30.
The Mexican National Team arrives at the Copa América in the midst of great uncertainty. The tricolor team has shown a worryingly low level in the last four years.
