There is no doubt that the Fourth Transformation in Mexico it has been a political movement that has promoted profound changes in various aspects of society, including the participation and role of women. In this context, and on the eve of celebrating Mother’s Day in our country, it is important to reflect on the intersection between feminisms of the left and motherhood within this transformative process.
Since its beginnings, the Fourth Transformation has advocated for an inclusive agenda that recognizes and values the contribution of women in all areas of public and private life. Left-wing feminisms, which prioritize the fight for gender equality and social justice, find a favorable space in this movement, where policies and actions are promoted aimed at eradicating discrimination and gender violence, as well as guaranteeing equal opportunities for all women.
In fact, in Ahome, the list of councilors, who accompanies me, is made up of a majority of women since, between owners and substitutes, there are 12 women and only 5 men, including me.
2 days away from celebrating Mother’s Day, which is so important for us Mexicans, it is important to mention that motherhood emerges as a central issue in the discussion about women’s rights and their participation in political and work life.
And, although motherhood is a deeply personal and diverse experience, on many occasions it has been used as an obstacle to the full participation of women in society. However, in the Fourth Transformation, we have sought to challenge this paradigm, recognizing and valuing the care work carried out by women and promoting policies that facilitate their reconciliation between work and family life.
It is important to highlight that in the 4T we do not seek to homogenize the experience of motherhood, but rather to recognize and respect the diversity of realities that women face in this regard. This involves not only guaranteeing access to reproductive health services and labor rights, but also promoting a culture of respect and support for women’s individual decisions regarding motherhood, whether they choose to be mothers or not, and in what way. time of their lives they want to do it.
It is because of this vision of seeking equality that, in the 4T, women are occupying leadership and decision-making spaces like never before, which represents significant progress towards the construction of a more equitable and fair society for all. and we have the greatest example in Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who has known how to combine her political activism, her scientific work and her talent for public administration with being a wife, mother and grandmother.
For this reason, we can say that today more than ever, with the continuity of the 4T and the sure arrival of Claudia Sheinbaum to the Presidency of the Republic, in Mexico it is time for women and we will work to continue advancing to guarantee that all women, regardless of their social, economic or cultural condition, can fully exercise their rights and live a life free of discrimination and violence.
Thus, in this campaign, where I have had the opportunity to meet with women fishermen, workers, teachers, businesswomen, students, indigenous people, it is noticeable that the transformation towards a winning Ahome has a woman’s face.
