The Prime Ministers of Ireland and Spain held further discussions on recognizing the State of Palestine. Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris spoke by phone with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez yesterday, following discussions that took place between them in Dublin and Brussels last month on this issue, according to the British news agency PA Media.
Harris said that this was their third conversation in recent weeks, and that they were keen to make progress on this issue very soon, adding, “Prime Minister Sanchez and I expressed our deep concern about reports indicating that Israel had ordered the evacuation of civilians from parts of the city of Rafah in preparation for a military operation.” ». He continued, saying, “I repeat my call to Israel not to carry out a large-scale military operation in Rafah. It is quite clear that any Israeli military operation in Rafah would inevitably lead to catastrophic humanitarian consequences and the killing of numbers of innocent civilians.”
He said: “We reaffirmed the desire of both Spain and Ireland to recognize the State of Palestine, and we agreed that official recognition is an important part of recognizing that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace and stability in the region, in light of the establishment of a Palestinian state living side by side with another state.” Israel is in peace and security.” He continued, saying, “We are coordinating efforts with other European countries to recognize a Palestinian state, along with countries that adopt a similar trend, and this will be done in a way that can have a significant positive impact on the situation on the ground.”
