The European Union expressed concern about the situation in Libya and regarding foreign interventions. This came during a meeting yesterday with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, with the Ambassador of the European Union Mission to Libya, Nicolas Orland, and his accompanying delegation in the city of Benghazi.
The Ambassador of the European Union Mission stressed that the Union will continue its support for Libya, especially in the field of capacity building, and also stressed its keenness to support the United Nations Mission.
During the meeting, the latest political developments in Libya and cooperation programs between the two sides were discussed, in addition to discussing the work of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
Al-Aqouri stressed the importance of the European Union’s role in supporting the stability of Libya, explaining that there is a close connection between the security and stability of Libya and the situation in Europe, stressing the position of the House of Representatives on the necessity of all foreign forces and mercenaries leaving Libyan territory to achieve stability in the country, calling for more coordination on support programs. The European Union, in order to make the most of it, renewed the Foreign Affairs Committee’s interest in the programs of the European Union mission to support border security. Regarding the migration file, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives stressed the necessity of joint coordination between Libya and the European Union to confront the unprecedented migration flows that have become a major challenge for everyone.
