The Los Angeles police demobilized a camp against Israel set up by protesters inside the University of Southern California (USC), this Sunday (5), at the request of the educational institution itself.
According to CBS, the agents entered the campus in riot gear, after the USC rectory informed the protest participants that they could be arrested if they failed to comply with the order to leave.
The president of the Californian university, Carol Folt, praised the work of the police and campus security, who “cleared the campus in the most peaceful and safe way possible.” No arrests were reported during the police raid.
After the camps were dismantled, USC posted on social media saying the campus was open to students, faculty and staff “with valid identification,” however, “tents and related equipment” were not permitted and could be confiscated.
The removal of the USC camp comes days after police carried out an operation at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), which resulted in the arrest of dozens of protesters for failing to comply with orders from the local government and the institution.
The police action in Los Angeles adds to similar protests that have taken place at dozens of universities in the United States in recent days and which have resulted in hundreds of arrests, most of them in Columbia (New York) and Wisconsin. In total, more than two thousand people were arrested in the student revolts.
