The “My Blood for My Homeland” campaign succeeded in collecting 692 new blood units from visitors to the Global Village in Dubai, during its current season, which concludes tomorrow, as donors from 47 nationalities participated in the campaign, 25% of whom are citizens.
Dr. Mai Raouf, President and Medical Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Centre, affiliated with Dubai Health, said that “My Blood for My Homeland” carried out 12 field campaigns in the Global Village during the current season, in which 692 donors participated, noting that the percentage of new donors who participated in The campaign for the first time reached 56.6% of the total donors, while the percentage of women’s participation in donating reached 21%.
Raouf added that the campaign witnessed a remarkable turnout from donors of various nationalities, numbering 47, and also witnessed a turnout from families, with the aim of strengthening the culture of donation and humanitarian work in society.
She stated that “Dubai Health” owns a number of high-level and well-equipped buses that meet the highest internationally applicable standards and requirements, which guarantee the safety and security of blood and ensure the comfort of donors. These buses do not only aim to collect blood from donors, but their role expands to contribute to raising awareness. Individuals understand the importance of blood donation and its benefits.
Raouf emphasized that the “My Blood for My Homeland” campaigns enjoy the trust and interaction of various institutions and bodies, which is due to the system of values that characterize Emirati society.
She pointed out that blood donation, in addition to being a humanitarian act and a societal responsibility that contributes to healing patients and saving lives, also brings great benefits to its donor.
Raouf identified four main benefits that a blood donor receives, which are the following: helping the body get rid of excess iron in the blood, activating the bone marrow to produce new blood cells, reducing the possibility of heart and brain clots, in addition to being considered a humanitarian act that contributes to Saving the lives of sick and needy people.
She explained that one unit of blood can save the lives of three people, whose health condition requires a blood transfusion, calling on members of society, including citizens and residents, to participate in the campaign, to provide the largest amount of blood, to save lives. It is noteworthy that this initiative is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, and is organized in a strategic partnership and cooperation between Al-Ameen Service, Dubai Health, the Dubai Health Authority, and Emirates Today.
