The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said this Friday (26) that the United States has evidence that China is trying to interfere in the presidential election to be held on November 5th.
Blinken made the comments to CNN after a meeting in Beijing with senior officials from the Asian country, including dictator Xi Jinping.
“We have generally seen evidence of attempts to influence and possibly interfere, and we want to make sure that this is stopped as quickly as possible,” Blinken said.
“Any interference by China in our elections is something we are looking at very carefully and is completely unacceptable to us, so I wanted to make sure they heard that message again,” said the Secretary of State.
At a press conference, Blinken said he asked China not to help Russia and not to supply it with components that could be used in its war against Ukraine.
“I made it clear in meetings that China cannot help Russia by providing electronic, mechanical, electromechanical components and other types of Defense technology,” said Blinken.
The Secretary of State pointed out that the possible ban on TikTok was not discussed in the meeting with Xi – this week, President Joe Biden signed a law that stipulates that the Chinese company ByteDance must sell the social network within a year, otherwise the platform will be banned in the United States.
For its part, China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Xi told Blinken at the meeting that the United States must “be true to its word” to deal with the “unresolved problems” in the bilateral relationship.
“China and the US have gone through ups and downs, but we must respect each other, cooperate and coexist. We must be partners and not harm each other, and to achieve this we must look for common ground, be faithful to our words and decisive in our actions,” Xi said, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
