Festival of the Falls
Among the many riders who, despite themselves, tasted the asphalt and gravel of Jerez today during the Sprint race, there was also Maverick Viñales. The Spaniard from Aprilia, however, did not willingly accept the zero of this short race and has pointed the finger at the race directionaccusing the commissioners of having allowed the race to take place even though there were no races necessary safety conditions. According to Viñales, in fact, the various patches of water still present on the track, which were the reason for the drip of crashes in a race of just a dozen laps, made it impossible to race regularly on the Spanish track.
Viñales points the finger at the race direction
“Today the problem was the state of the track – thundered the ruler of the Austin weekend to the microphones of Sky Sports MotoGP – they kept us running even though we fell like skittles. This is a topic that needs to be talked about. The conditions were bad. At Turn 5 you couldn't tell that it was wet. On the first lap Aleix made an incredible flight into turn 8 without pushing on the gas, because he caught the wet part. This must be the theme. It's not clear how you can have a race, let alone a Sprint, with the track so wet. The conditions weren't there. We pilots sometimes need to come together more. Nothing happens to waiting half an hour more and racing on a dry track“.
Looking ahead to tomorrow's race
A j'accuse in full order, before which Viñales had nevertheless shown himself confident looking towards tomorrow's race, in which the objective will be to stage a COTA-style comeback: “Moving up here is difficult, more so than in Austin obviously, but looking at the data in the pits I saw that I had a pace close to that of the leaders. Tomorrow I have to get a good start and get up front, in which case I can play for it“.
