GasGas, Acosta amazes again
Pedro Acosta continues to surprise riding the KTM of his GasGas team. The Spanish rider made his long-awaited MotoGP debut at his home track of Jerez de la Frontera, qualifying directly for Q2 by taking sixth place in Practice, while teammate Augusto Fernandez finished in 22nd place. And, to further give a measure of how much Acosta is having an impact on the Mattighofen house, not even the factory KTMs of Brad Binder and Jack Miller qualified for Q2.
Acosta progressively improved his flying lap from tenth place this morning to sixth in Practice, also being able to learn from a champion like Dani Pedrosa, in this KTM wild card weekend. In the end, in the final time attack, Acosta managed to set, in the wake of Bagnaia, a 1'36.439 which placed him four tenths behind the world champion.
Acosta's words
“It's never easy to arrive on a new circuit with a MotoGP, there are many things to focus on and understand before Friday afternoon testing“, commented Acosta. “In the end we can be happy because we worked a bit on the pace with the tires, and we set a good time without making too many mistakes, and this helped us get to Saturday well. We are happy, let's continue the work!“.
Fernandez's words
“I have a small injury on my finger and today I felt more pain than I expected, so today was really difficult for us. I have to take care of my hand, we will continue to work on it tonight, because I lack some strength. Let's hope that tomorrow things will improve and we can be in better shape”, added Fernandez.
