Manor Lords is currently on the wishlist of over three million players on Steam within days of launch. It's clear that many can't wait to jump on the game from the moment it comes out but exactly how much will they have to pay? Unfortunately the CEO of Manor Lords publisher – Hooded Horse – doesn't want to say, but promises it will be a honest price.
Speaking in the game's subreddit, the CEO wrote: “I want to provide some information on the because we are not sharing the price of Manor Lords in a public way, for the moment. Manor Lords, like other games on Steam, will not have a single price. It will have regional pricing that will apply worldwide.”
“It's not just different currencies, there are large regions of the world where Steam uses US dollars for prices but displays them in different ways,” the executive explains.
“This is why we don't like to declare a price before publication. Because sharing only the US price leads to misunderstandings. People will conclude that the game isn't accessible in their region when they have a price that works for them when they release the game.”
The problem of gray markets and a confirmation on the price
The CEO goes on to say “I also want to draw attention to another issue, and another important reason why we are not sharing the price publicly now: the rise of gray market/scam stores who attempt to sell “pre-orders” on the keys to Manor Lords. They don't have keys and won't get any from us.”
“But they are trying to exploit the hype and, despite our choice to do not make pre-orders because we don't want to take your money until after publication, they say they accept pre-orders for key sales. They have no idea what the price will be, so they guess and probably think they can get a key through questionable means later (or leave the customer not getting what they paid for). We don't want players to be scammed or ripped off by these sites, and giving them an accurate price to plan for would likely only increase their proliferation and marketing of these 'pre-orders'.”
Finally, explain that the players they shouldn't be worried about the price. Hooded Horse “has never priced a game as if it were AAA.” He points out that no matter how popular Manor Lords is, they don't want to increase the figure. We shouldn't even expect the arrival of five different editions of the game with various DLC “or other crap like that”.
The launch price will be “fair” and with an “honest discount”.
We therefore hope that the price of the game does not destroy the economy as happened with its sheep.
