Adrian Lehmann suffered a heart attack in the middle of training and died in hospital.
Swiss endurance runner Adrian Lehmann has died at the age of 34. The Swiss Athletics Federation announced this on Instagram on Sunday.
Lehmann suffered a heart attack during training last week. He was taken to hospital, and as of Friday his condition was said to be stable.
“Adrian Lehmann's relatives informed that the runner died as a result of a heart attack. The Swiss athletics family is shocked and deeply saddened,” the association's publication states.
Lehmann, who won the Swiss marathon championship in 2023, prepared to run for the Zurich marathon on Sunday. The competition would have been important for him in terms of pursuing an Olympic place.
Lehmann ran his record of 2.11.44 a year ago in Zurich. He has represented Switzerland at European Championship level three times.
