Tragedy in the world of healthcare workers. Roberto Campigotto, a 118 operator aged 57, he died yesterday, Saturday 20 April while he was carrying out an intervention on the car together with his colleagues. They were intervening to help a man who had suffered a serious illness.
Campigotto, originally from Sacrofano, had been sent to work in the Monterondo area for a shift change. During the patient's resuscitation maneuvers, the operator suffered a sudden illness and had a heart attack.
Other ambulances immediately arrived on site and thehelicopter rescuebut despite timely help Campigotto did not survive and died during transport to Monterotondo hospital.
The news of his passing sparked great condolences among his colleagues and in the world of healthcare. Precisely the situation in which the tragic event occurred made the issue truly sad and dramatic for the whole Vicenza community. Alessandro Saulini, secretary of NurSind ARES 118, declared:
Roberto was a valid colleague and respected by all. This tragedy pushes us to reflect on the unsustainable workload to which the 118 staff is subjected, with exhausting shifts and often shortage of staff.
