As Grandma said, 'Te is never good, except satisfied'. Because although an engine without oil will fail in no time, too much oil is not good either. That is why a min and a max can be read on the dipstick. Now, car manufacturers always work with a little margin, so a little too much oil in the engine is not a problem, but if you overshoot, you will get into trouble. The guests of Garage 54 worked on an engine to show what happens next.
With the first few sips of too much oil, suspiciously little happens. According to the video, three times the max level on the dipstick is no problem, but do not take this as advice. This engine is on a trestle and is only lightly loaded, so it may not be a very direct reflection of reality. As the oil level continues to increase, the problems begin to increase.
The engine starts to smoke more heavily and eventually oil comes out of the oil pan vent. Because the crankcase ventilation can no longer work properly, the pressure at the bottom of the engine increases. This pressure will find its way out through other gaskets and seals. If the problem persists, at some point a gasket or seal will fail.
Too much oil in the engine, what now?
Don't pay attention and let 10 liters run into the engine? The solution is simple: take a hand pump with a long hose attached to it and insert it into the oil dipstick tube. Pump the oil out of the engine little by little until the level is correct again. Are you in a bit of a hurry and don't mind dirty hands and greasy tools? Carefully loosen the sump plug at the bottom of the engine to allow some oil to drain. Or you can drain everything (into a clean container) and then refill the engine. Just what you want.
