Yesterday in Rome the first initiative of the Italian Chapter of the Friends of ERA was held, an association which was, over thirty years ago, among the founders of the well-known Academy of European Law (ERA). During a dinner in the greenery of the Circolo Tennis Belle Arti, welcomed by the Chair of Friends of ERA, Jettie Van Caeneghem and by the head of the Italian Chapter, Gabriella Muscolo, the guests attended an interview with Giovanni Pitruzzella, Judge of the Constitutional Court on “The return of geo-economics and Europe”.
Interviewing him was Francesco Bertolino, del Corriere della Sera. The crisis of the hyper-globalization of the liberal democratic order that followed the Cold War, and which was based on the distinction between politics and economics, was discussed. We have questioned the causes of this phenomenon and what will remain of globalization and multilateralism in the economic field.
We asked ourselves what to expect from Europe in the face of the political use of the economy and the clash between political capitalisms. Finally, a question could not be missing on the role of the Internet and digital technologies in a world that is becoming fragmented and politicized. The debate was very well attended.
