Shouting “We will always love you Pipimo” they said their last goodbye to José Ángel Saiz Santos 'Changelito' in Angostura, Sinaloa, a man with Down Syndrome considered by his acquaintances as one of the most noble, innocent and joyful people who have ever lived. existed.
The tears and crying galore that his departure brought with him are no coincidence, his charisma always filled with happiness the gray tones of those not so pleasant days and made those already good ones unique.
Changelito, the oldest of 3 brothers, was born on July 4, 1986 and died at the age of 37 on April 14, 2024. He lived much of his life in Tijuana, Baja California, but one of his great passions was visiting his beloved ranches Puerto La Reforma and Gato de Lara, Angostura, Sinaloa.
“His whole life was happy, the band and dancing were never lacking. He improvised all the songs he heard in order to sing at the top of his lungs with his microphone,” a close friend of José Ángel told DEBATE.
Another of his great tastes was food and we can't blame him. Who doesn't crave, like him, freshly made flour tortillas and a very cold soft drink. It didn't take much for his face to smile with a purity that was hard to believe in this world full of evil.
When there was a chance, he liked to be taken to the “Chinese food burufet”, as they call the buffets.
His mark in the community is not only related to the music that he is passionate about, he was also an example of empathy with his numerous financial collections to buy food for the stray animals he found on his way.
“He was always very noble with everyone, children, adults, the elderly and even little animals, he tried to ask for cooperation to buy food for any dog that was in his colony, several of them thanked him by accompanying him and protecting him wherever he went.”
If you knew Changel, you are probably familiar with the expressions 'cousin' or 'cousin', which he always used as a sign of trust to almost anyone who was in his way.
“He made many friends and worked in various places, they never turned their backs on him, on the contrary, he won the affection of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, apart from calling 'cousin' and 'pima' to anyone he met.”
Pain is inevitable
José Ángel presented various medical problems such as leukemia, clots in the brain, heart problems, a heart attack, among other conditions that caused him to lose the ability to recognize his loved ones.
As a result of a miracle, Changelito asked his sister to sing to him, one of the last times he showed himself with the lucidity that everyone he knows misses.
When his heart stopped beating, he began a new mission, to fulfill his last wish. He died on Sunday, April 14 at the General Hospital No. 1 in Tijuana, BC and was transferred by land on Monday the 15th to Sinaloa, where he was finally buried on Wednesday the 17th in Puerto La Reforma, Angostura.
Your last wish
José Ángel longed to celebrate his 38th birthday with the Banda El Recodo on his grandfather's plot, one of his favorite places. He did not make it alive to the field that he loved so much, but he arrived.
His coffin was placed in the place where he spent some of the best moments of his existence and loved ones danced, sang and applauded to the rhythm of the Rancho Alegre Band. The pain was impossible to hide, but a being of such brilliance would have wanted that.
With a sadness that overshadowed the festive atmosphere, everyone present said goodbye, leaving as consolation the beautiful and incomparable memories that he left in every heart he touched.
“We are sure that you are with God because your soul was the purest and most innocent. We know that from heaven you will continue to sing your favorite song to us,” said one of many people who are going through deep mourning for DEBATE.
