Chaos in the rain
The Chinese GP weekend couldn't have started better for McLaren. The Woking team were able to celebrate with Lando Norris the conquest of first position on the grid for the Sprint race tomorrow at the end of one chaotic and spectacular qualifyingcharacterized in particular by bad weather and the controversial decisions of the commissioners who canceled numerous times due to the failure to comply with track limits.
The victim of the stewards' severity was Norris himself, who, finishing long in the last corner during a fast lap in SQ3, had seen himself delete both the time just recorded and that of the next lap, which earned him first place in the rankings. Shortly afterwards, however, the commissioners arrived realize that you made a mistake in your assessment and they restored the time trial of the English #4. This take-away has generated some confusion also at the papaya box wall, where it wasn't immediately clear that Norris had actually earned the start at the pole for tomorrow's mini-race. This is demonstrated by the back-and-forth over the radio between Norris and his track engineer William Joseph.
The back and forth over the radio
Norris: “Has my tour been cancelled?”.
Joseph: “Um…we are…they are saying now that the tour has been re-inserted (in the rankings). If it has been re-entered, you are in pole.”
Norris: “I didn't go off track anywhere, so…”.
Joseph: “Okay, you're on pole. Well done!”.
Norris: “Yes baby! Beautiful! Simply beautiful.”
Joseph: “You made me worry.”
