The electronic eyes that monitor traffic
Ztl I don't fear you: all those who are “forced” to reach the city center with limited traffic every day, both for work reasons and for family duties and more.
The gates, however, are guarded by incorruptible cameras: you cannot pass except at permitted times; but then how to do it? Replace your car with one that is at least Euro 6?
An increasingly older car fleet
A communication of the Automobile Club of Italy just today he underlined the existence of a situation bordering on the tolerable: the life of the Italian fleet continues to lengthen, in 2023 the average age of cars was 12 years and 10 months: 4 more than the previous year, and cars from Euro 0 to Euro 3 (with over 14 years of honorable service) are a quarter of the total.
Furthermore, the density of cars circulating in our country (still specifies theACI), is the highest in the whole of Europe, with 41 million cars, equal to 693 cars for every 1,000 inhabitants.
The price basket is unforgiving
The economy, however – the everyday one, controlled by the prices of bread, vegetables, meat and fish – is not going through a shining period, on the contrary. A new “B” segment car, like a Fiat 500, so to speak, in many versions exceeds 20,000 euros, even if the cars are regularly offered with the financing formula (in any case almost 200 euros/month, plus a large final installment and often an equally adequate advance).
Comparing it to the annual net salary of an early career employee worth over a year's work, assuming that that employee does not have any other expense items. Impossible.
The art of making do that has always distinguished the Italian people is therefore coming back into play, and there are quite a few who have managed to find a possible solution to legally overcome the gates of ZTLeven during closing hours.
How to overcome the block
So what requirements are necessary for a car to overcome the block?
Obviously expensive electric cars are included, and the category includes cars that accompany or are owned by disabled people, as well as taxis, service and emergency vehicles. But here comes the study on power supplies, the Trojan horse that allows you to overcome the ZTL gates.
Are considered cars powered by LPG and methane are non-polluting, transformation that can be performed on almost all petrol models, while installing LPG on a diesel does not exclude the consumption of diesel, therefore it is not always able to contain emissions below the permitted limit threshold.
LPG as an opportunity
Mount a system a LPG has variable costs depending on the brand of the system itself and the number of cylinders of the engine, however they range from 6/700 euros up to over 2,000 (with a 5.2 liter V8, the cheapest asked 1,800 euros for the assembly). In installation, the workshop that carries out the operation usually it also takes care of the visit to the Civil Motorization Office and the related testing, necessary to be able to travel. The methane system has costs that are at least 30% higher, costs which are then included in daily use because the unit price of methane is significantly lower than the current average 0.70 euros of LPG, which in any case costs little more than a clear of a liter of petrol.
Entrance is almost always paid
For those who absolutely need to enter the centre, however, most municipalities require paid entry into the centre limited traffic areas; here everyone does their own calculations…
The authorities responsible for selecting who can drive and who can't are also influenced by fuel revenue, an important item for the tax authorities; the treasury, in fact, benefited from a greater revenue derived from fuel sales (38 billion), a marked increase compared to 2022, due to the end of the excise duty cuts decided during the year; Finally, VAT for the purchase of vehicles (9.2 billion) and the ownership tax, with almost 7 billion euros, contribute to a lesser but not negligible extent.
