The capital's Water Commission detailed on the night of Thursday, April 19, in a statement that the complaint was filed on Wednesday in order for an investigation to be carried out.
“The presence of some type of contaminant present in the drinking water that is extracted” from a well in the southern sector is recorded, “which suggests the commission of criminal conduct generated against the provision of public service,” says the complaint according to the bulletin.
This has had the “consequence of disruption to the economic, political, social or cultural life” of the affected area, the claim adds.
Water with a “gasoline smell”
On March 31, residents of the central Benito Juárez mayor's office reported that the water in their homes had a “gasoline smell” and “strange taste,” in addition to causing skin and eye damage in some neighbors, according to local media reports.
Last week, the Mexico City Mayor's Office reported that the well contaminated with “a substance from the family of oils and lubricants” has already been closed and cleaned, and it is a matter of time before the remnants are diluted.

This water contamination occurs at a time when several Mexico City neighborhoods and suburbs – where some 20 million people live – have suffered water cuts since the middle of last year.
2023 was the driest year recorded in Mexico since 1941, with a rainfall deficit of more than 20% below average, according to the National Meteorological Service.
