The Ministry of Community Development communicated with a large group of senior citizens in various emirates and regions of the country, especially those residing in the Eastern Region, as a reflection of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to ensure the safety and security of citizens and residents, and to provide means of support. Finally, coordinating efforts with the concerned authorities for all families affected by the effects of the weather depression and rains witnessed in various emirates and regions of the country.
During the past few days, the Ministry’s communication with senior citizens comes within the “We Are Your Family” initiative, via phone calls made by a number of its employees, in order to check on the health of senior citizens, to reassure themselves, learn about their needs, follow up on their conditions, and ensure that they do not face any critical challenges during their movement in areas. Their housing requires rapid intervention from the competent authorities, with the Ministry coordinating with them, to provide the necessary support and overcome the challenges of the effects resulting from the climatic conditions that the country has witnessed.
The “We Are Your Family” initiative is considered one of the pioneering and distinguished social experiments that aims to provide support and achieve positive communication with this important segment of society, based on authentic Emirati customs and traditions, and within the framework of the continuous attention that the Ministry pays towards senior citizens to follow up on their affairs. In line with the provisions of the Law on the Rights of Senior Citizens, and the goals of the national policy for senior citizens, which were based on 7 basic axes that included health care, community communication and active life, investing in energies and civic participation, quality of future life, infrastructure and transportation, financial stability, security and safety.
The “We Are Your Family” initiative was launched in 2019, as an interactive community initiative urging all members of society, employees of the government and private sectors, in addition to volunteers registered through the National Volunteering Platform (Volunteers.Emirates), to communicate with senior citizens through home visits, and those residing in homes. The widespread care in the country, while (We Are Your Family – Telephone) was launched remotely, in April 2020, and came within the framework of communication and providing the necessary moral support to them, during the period of home quarantine and the Corona pandemic “Covid 19”, and to check on their psychological and social health. And access to their household needs via phone or video applications. The number of phone calls until the first quarter of the current year 2024 has reached more than 10,000 phone calls.
The “We Are Your Family” initiative emphasizes the cohesion of community members with this important community segment, strengthening the concept of social responsibility among community members, and achieving sustainable and positive communication with them in all emirates and regions of the country, whether through phone calls or direct visits, while this reflects the Ministry’s vision in providing services. Proactive for all beneficiaries of its services.
